All about the people behind the Great Ashby Community Centre

Great Ashby in snow

The Great Ashby Community Resource Centre opened to the public in mid January 2004 under the management of North Hertfordshire District Council.

The funding for the establishment of the Centre and provision of associated community services was provided jointly by both North Hertfordshire District Council and Stevenage Borough Council and was so for a period of three years.

During that time the centre management committee gained Charitable Trust status, with day to day operational management moving from North Hertfordshire District Council to a Management Committee, initially established as a Steering Group formed from local residents.

The Centre was managed by Peter Underwood and his assistant Dot Smith, both of whom were employed by North Hertfordshire District Council. When The Great Ashby Community Centre Management Association took control of the centre Dot Smith remained, and continues to manage the centre on a day to day basis.

The Centre has a number of regular courses / classes running at various times of the week, covering a variety of activities and age ranges.

The facility is also available for hire for private parties and functions. Details of the courses currently running and general hire rates and conditions can be obtained by contacting the Centre.
